Wingman Program

Wingman Program, Beads of Courage

What’s a Wingman?

  • Someone who flies beside you and protects you.
  • Someone watches your back when you think you are flying solo.

Kids coping with serious illness need a WINGMAN to help them get their Beads of Courage. This includes over 400 children on the waiting list to get Beads in the Mail – some waiting several months or more.

Your donation of $100 will sponsor a child in the US into the Beads in the Mail Program.  They will receive:

  • Beads of Courage in the mail for a full year.
  • A pewter WINGMAN Bead of Courage packaged with a note of encouragement that you write at checkout.
  • One-on-one email support from a Beads of Courage Nurse for the child and family during their treatment journey.

Wingman FAQs:

Q: What is the ‘Beads in the Mail’ Program?

A: Beads in the Mail is a Beads of Courage program for children and teens in the US coping with serious illness. Beads in the Mail supports thousands of children in the US who don’t get beads at the hospital, either because there is no hospital program in their area or because their hospital does not provide beads for their particular illness. Find even more BITM info below.

Q: How can I be a WINGMAN?

A: Simply donate $100 per child you wish to sponsor for Beads in the Mail. You are welcome to name a specific child, or simply donate to sponsor the child who has been waiting the longest to receive Beads in the MailThis is for those in the US only.

Q: What will my donation provide?

A: Each child sponsored for Beads in the Mail will receive:

  • Beads of Courage in the Mail for a full year.

Q: Can I sponsor a child outside the US?

A: For those interested in receiving Beads of Courage outside the US, please inquire about the Bead for Bead Program.

Q: May I sponsor more than one child?

A: YES! Please complete a separate transaction for each child you wish to sponsor.

Q: May I sponsor a child already enrolled in Beads in the Mail?

A: YES! As word of this popular program has spread, an ever-growing demand for Beads in the Mail has outpaced our ability to provide beads to all the children and families requesting them. We welcome your financial support of this vitally needed program. A donation is not required to participate in Beads in the Mail.

Q: Do I have to provide the name of a specific child to sponsor?

A: No, but if you know a child on the waiting list, you are welcome to sponsor them directly.

Q: What if more than one person sponsors the same child?

A: If a child is sponsored more than once, subsequent donations will be used to sponsor the child on the waiting list for Beads in the Mail who has been waiting the longest.

Q: Can I make a general donation to Beads in the Mail without sponsoring a specific child?

A: YES! We desperately need generous donors to support this vital program year-round.
